Seven Kurdish political parties have called for a demonstration in protest against a decree which they say prevents Kurds from owning property.

The parties issued a statement, published on several Kurdish website on October 26, calling for a peaceful protest to take place in front of the Syrian parliament on November 11.

The protest will call for the annulment of a decree under which the interior, defence and agriculture ministries have to approve real estate deals in border areas. The parties maintained that the decree, issued on September 19, will prevent Kurds, who live mainly in eastern Syria, from acquiring new property and that this would paralyse the region’s economy.

The latest decree forms part of a broader policy of discriminating against Kurds, the parties said.

The statement was signed by the Democratic Kurdish Party in Syria, the Democratic Equality Kurdish party, the Democratic Kurdish National party, the Yekiti party, the Azadi party, the Kurdish Left party and Kurdish Future Trend.
