Kaduna: religious groups pledge peaceful elections

Faith-based organisations in Kaduna State have pledged their commitment to peaceful elections in the state on Thursday.

The spokespersons for the state’s chapters of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) said it was time the citizens put the unfortunate post-election violence behind and moved forward.

CAN secretary, Rev. Yinusa Nmadu stated that the organization was satisfied with security arrangements in place for the elections.

Nmadu said CAN had also toured the state with messages of peace; adding that concern for the development and growth of Nigeria should override individual interests.

JNI secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Kufena declared that the Islamic body wanted unity and peace to prevail in Kaduna state.

Kufena said Nigerians needed to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness and understand that there can be no progress and development without peace.
