IWPR Kyrgyz Report Improves Local Healthcare

IWPR Kyrgyz Report Improves Local Healthcare

After IWPR reporter Jenish Aydarov highlighted the lack of maternity facilities in Zardaly, a village in the Batken region of southern Kyrgyzstan, the local authorities promised to provide proper medical care.

Aydarov interviewed Khaytali Aykynov, the head of health and welfare for Batken region, who said teams of medics were now paying regular visits to remote, thinly-populated villages like Zardaly.

The second story in the package focused on the village of Kainar in the northern Talas region, where the local school has been in a dangerous state of disrepair for the last decade. The final story was a feature about growing bananas in Osh.

The audio programme, in Russian and Kyrgyz, went out on national radio stations in Kyrgyzstan, as part of IWPR project work funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
