Halabja Reconstruction Conference Delayed

Peyamner is an online news service based in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan.

A conference on reconstructing and developing Halabja has been delayed. Official sources did not want to comment on the decision. Sirwan Osman, a conference organizer, said the conference had been quickly put together and that they needed more time and funding to prepare. He said the government has not provided any financial support for the conference (which was announced following anti-government riots over poor services in the Kurdish town.) The conference is expected to focus on practical steps to reconstruct Halabja. In past years only empty promises were made.
