Get It Right This Time, Say Local Monitoring Groups

Nigerian Election monitoring groups have spoken out about the logistical problems that still need to be overcome to ensure that free, fair and credible elections take place next Saturday.

The Reverend Father Ben Asogo, of the Justice Development and Peace Commission, has called on the Police, to live up to their responsibility, of ensuring that, election officials get to the polling units, in good time

Speaking on a radio programme in Abuja, Father Asogo, a member of the Project 2011 Swift Count voter monitoring project, also said that INEC needed to ensure, that all election staff, are paid promptly.

Meanwhile, Dr. Aisha Akanbi, from the Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria, has said that last Saturday, their election observers reported that, some of the polling centres did not appear to have adequate security personnel.

She also said that security staff, should ensure that party supporters, are discouraged from sharing money or food, at the polling centres, with their supporters and, more importantly, with election officials.
