Georgia Makes Play for Kazak Investment
Kazak investment in Georgia looks set to increase further when president Mikheil Saakashvili visits Astana in early March. Kazakstan has already invested significant amounts in Georgia’s banking and tourism sectors, and earlier this year Saakashvili said he wanted the Kazaks to be the country’s major foreign investor. The Kazaks may also fund the construction of a railway running Turkey via Georgia to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mamedyarov formally invited Kazakstan to join the project when he visited Astana on February 27.
