Samia Sadat, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of the Afghan parliament, escaped unhurt from an assassination attempt in the Totomdara area of the northern province of Parwan late on February 12. One of her bodyguards was injured in the attack. Sadat, who represents Parwan, was travelling in a vehicle when unidentified gunmen opened fire on it, provincial officials said. The police already have suspects in custody and are interrogating them.
