Election re-scheduling controversy in Kaduna
Should Governorship and State House elections hold in Kaduna State this Thursday or not?
This has become the big question amidst cycles of violence in the State since the Presidential elections.
INEC had re-scheduled the polls in the State for Thursday although voting will take place in other States on April 26.
Opposition Parties in the State said the election should be further postponed because peace has not been fully restored.
Spokesperson for the Parties, Balarabe Musa, said political parties and INEC staff cannot perform their duties freely under the present circumstance.
All Nigeria Peoples Party Governorship Candidate, Ahmed Aruwa, said INEC should make special arrangements for displaced persons who had lost their voter’s cards before holding the election.
The Opposition Parties said they might take legal action to stop INEC from conducting the elections.
But while the opposition parties flex muscles, the State Governor and candidate of the ruling PDP - Patrick Yakowa, said the election should hold. Yakowa said people would still turn out en-masse despite the recent violence because of the measures being put in place by the government.
Prominent among the measures is the ban on sale of fuel in jerry cans and gallons by black-marketers.
