Donkeys Sold as Goat Meat

Unscrupulous traders are getting away with passing off donkey meat as goat meat and beef, the official newspaper Tishreen reported on September 23.



The official paper Al-Thawra ran a story about the same topic, stating that in Sbene on the outskirts of Damascus the police have discovered a slaughterhouse where donkeys were slaughtered, with their meat mixed with goat meat and sold at market.



About 400 kilogramme of meat was confiscated.



The newspaper blamed the incident on the lack of serious punishments for such crimes and asked, “How many donkeys are slaughtered all over the country and fed to the poor?"
