Syria Media Report, 09-May-08

The ministry of economy and trade has instructed provincial branches of the interior ministry to intensify the enforcement of rules governing the sale of subsidised and rationed goods, SANA news agency reported on May 4.

Interior ministry directorates were ordered to monitor the markets in each province to ensure that shops are not hiking up their prices.

The economy ministry wants subsidised products to be available at their proper prices, and asked police to take “severe legal measures” against anyone found selling these items for higher amounts of money.
