Christians Celebrate Christmas and New Year Abroad

London-based Azzaman is issued daily by Saad al-Bazaz.

Many Iraqi Christians are travelling abroad to stay with relatives and celebrate Christmas and New Year away from the violent scenes in Iraq. Meanwhile, those remaining here said they would only exchange greetings by telephone rather than celebrate the occasion as they used to do during peacetime. Faris Naoom, a Christian teacher, said that they could not celebrate the festive period amid the chaos because they had to respect the feelings of families that have lost loved ones.
