Afghanistan has started random testing of poultry to determine whether bird flu has arrived in the country, according to officials with the United Nations’ agriculture body. Samples from 455 birds have been tested in Afghanistan and sent to Italy for further study, the Food and Agriculture Organisation representatives said. They did not divulge the results of the tests. The disease is mostly likely to enter Afghanistan by means of migratory birds, which began arriving one month ago.
