Afghan president poised to nominate senators

Outlook is an independent daily published in English.

Presidential spokesman Karim Rahimi said on November 30 that President Hamed Karzai would shortlty appoint the 34 remaining members of the upper house of parliament. Rahimi said the president would soon be naming the members, who will constitute one-third of the upper house [the others were elected from the provincial councils]. Peter Erben, operations chief of the Joint Electoral Management Body, has also said the president is working on the selection.
