Defense minister: no place for militias

Baghdad is a daily newspaper issued by the Iraqi National Accord.

Defense Minister Abdul kader Mohammed has declared that only government forces are permitted to carry weapons in public places and anyone who defies his order will be punished, irrespective of ethnic or tribal background. He said armed groups were out of control, working to spread chaos and weaken the government. He added that the army had hit militias in Adhamiya, Ghazaliya, and Sadr City and would continue targeting those trying to destabilise Iraq.
