Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov will visit Afghanistan in September to discuss plans for the possible construction of a 1,430 kilometre trans-Afghanistan pipeline to supply Turkmen gas to Pakistan via Afghanistan.

At the meeting, the countries’ leaders will also discuss the joint struggle against terrorism and drug trafficking.

During Afghan president Hamid Karzai’s visit to Turkmenistan in early August, Ashgabat and Kabul agreed to set up an inter-governmental commission and a joint checkpoint on their shared border.
