Acting oil minister Hashim al-Hashimi denied that (the government) would increase oil prices and said prices would stay as they are. Satellite channels and news agencies earlier reported that Iraq would gradually raise the prices of oil products up to ten times of their current levels. They estimated that by the end of 2006, a litre of fuel would cost 1,500 Iraqi dinars. (The current government price for a litre of fuel is 150 dinars per litre.) Hashimi has opposed raising oil prices since assuming responsibility for the ministry.
