On August 13-14, Tajik president Imomali Rahmonov will pay his first ever official visit to Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev visited Dushanbe in March, and the two countries agreed to open embassies.

During Rahmonov’s visit, there will be talks on how to implement the agreements reached in March in the spheres of investment, tourism, transport, and humanitarian cooperation.

Analysts say both countries are keen to expand their relationship. The Tajiks stand to gain from cooperation on energy, while Azerbaijan is looking for international support for its demand that the de facto separate territory of Nagorny Karabakh be returned to its rule.
