Unidentified armed men attacked a local militia commander in the western province of Herat on May 20, injuring him and his bodyguard. Provincial officials said that the incident happened when commander Amanullah was on his way to the local disarmament commission in order to hand over his arms [under the ongoing disarmament programme]. The injured men were taken to a Spanish military hospital in the province, where they are in stable condition, the source said.
