Afghan president Hamed Karzai made a trip to the southern province of Zabul on March 28. He has made many trips to other provinces, but his recent visit to Zabul is of particular significance. It shows that the president is paying attention not only to those provinces that are improving and have good security, but also to the more backward and remote ones. Zabul has been badly hit by decades of war. The standard of living is very low. The enemies of peace and stability often carry out hit-and-run attacks here, and seek to halt reconstruction efforts. They do not want little children to go to school. But in spite of all these efforts by the terrorists, the province is heading towards reconstruction. As the process gathers speed, security and stability will get better. We hope that other backward and remote provinces will also see reconstruction soon.
