Basra Teachers Strike

Al-Sabah al-Jadeed is an independent daily paper.

Teachers in the southern province of Basra went on strike Monday demanding salaries comparable to those awarded to education staff in the Kurdistan region. Kurdistan teachers receive marital, child and risk allowances and their salary scale is twice as high as that in the Basra region. Strike leaders say the protest will continue until the ministry meets their demands.
