When President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov attends the eighth unofficial summit of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States in St Petersburg on June 10, he will be the first Turkmen official ever to take part in such an event

While there is no strict agenda for the summit, Berdymuhammedov is scheduled to hold private talks with the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev, to discuss possible oil and gas cooperation.

The Turkmen leader will be in Moscow on June 25 at the invitation of Russian president Vladimir Putin, to attend the opening of an exhibition showcasing a gold-bound copy of the Koran.
