The Institute of Languages at Damascus University has opened a Venezuelan wing with 250 books focusing on that country’s literature, politics, culture, philosophy and economics.

Cham Press, an online news website administrated by the Independent Media Group in Damascus, reported on December 13 that a Venezuelan organisation, Ayacucho, sent books and documentary films. All the materials are in Spanish and will be used to help develop the university’s Spanish department, which opened this year.

Venezuela sent the materials to express its gratitude to the university for awarding Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez an honorary PhD in international relations last year.
