In early September, Uzbek president Islam Karimov will pay his first official visit to Turkmenistan since President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov came to power there.

A Turkmen delegation from various ministries is due in Tashkent on August 29 to draw up the bilateral agreements which the two leaders will sign.

Analysts say that these visits will begin to repair the damage done to the two countries’ political and economic relationship since the late Turkmen president Saparmurat Niazov accused Uzbekistan of assisting in a plot to assassinate him in late 2002.
