US vice-president to attend parliament's maiden session

United States Vice-President Dick Cheney will participate in the inaugural session of the new Afghan parliament on December 19, a presidential official said on December 17. President Hamed Karzai’s spokesman Karim Rahimi said that apart from Cheney, other foreign dignitaries will also take part in the maiden session of the first democratically-elected parliament in decades. “Monday’s parliamentary session, the first in more than 30 years, is a historic day for Afghanistan. Representatives of friendly countries will attend the landmark meeting,” said Rahimi.
