UN Pushes Peace Initiative in Baghdad

Al-Sabah is a daily independent publicly owned newspaper.

United Nations envoy Ashraf Kadi announced an initiative to eradicate violence and spread peace and security in all provinces, including Baghdad. After meeting with outgoing prime minister Ibrahim al-Ja'fari, Kadi said in a press conference that the initiative is part of an Iraqi-led national charter that includes a peace treaty. He gave no additional details but maintained that efforts were underway among Iraqis, particularly Baghdad (leaders,) to establish the treaty. Ja'fari praised the initiative and called on political parties to support it.
