Turkmenistan to Host Investment Forum

Turkmenistan to Host Investment Forum

Thursday, 25 June, 2009
An international investment forum in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, scheduled for October 15 to 17, will focus on opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

The event is being organised by the British firm IC Energy Ltd. and Turkmenistan’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and will be attended by representatives of international financial institutions and major companies.

Turkmenistan annually produces about 80 billion cubic metres of gas, of which 60 billion is exported, most of it Russia.

Since Soviet times, Turkmenistan has had no option but to export its gas via Russian pipelines, but the country is currently looking at a range of alternative routes.

To supply the gas needed for a diversified export network, the plan is to increase production with the help of foreign investors.
