Thousands of policemen on duty

The police have pledged to provide adequate security as Nigerians elect the President today.

In Lagos, the Commissioner of Police, Sulaimon Abba, said the over eight thousand polling units will be manned by his personnel.

Abba said the Police will perform its duty but also urged politicians to abide by the rules since the stakes are highest when it comes to electing the president.

In Oyo, over 10,000 policemen are on duty. Police Commissioner, Saliu Hashimu said additional personnel have been drawn from the Zone II command to beef up security operations in the State.

Across the rest of the country, the trend is the same.

Additionally, the Police authorities said the various Police commands will be open to those who might have any complaints.

Abba, the Lagos Police Commissioner also said all Heads of Departments (HODs) and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have been adequately sensitized on how best to discharge their responsibilities during the elections.
