Taleban commander arrested in Kandahar

Erada is an independent daily run by the Afghan Media and Resource Centre.

The Afghan National Army arrested a key Taleban commander in the southern province of Kandahar on January 29, officials said. Defence ministry spokesman General Zahir Azimi said, “Mullah Janan, a key Taleban commander, was arrested in a mopping-up operation conducted by Afghan forces in Kandahar’s fifth at 9 am yesterday.” Azimi recalled that Mullah Janan held a senior position under the Taleban regime, and said he was still one of the movement#s key commanders controlling southern parts of the country.
