On August 9, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov sacked three of his ministers for incompetence. The three are electricity and industry minister Yusup Davudov, construction minister Jumadurdy Kakaliev and road transport minister Ashirgeldi Zamanov.

Berdymuhammedov said their attitude to work was “extremely irresponsible”, they lacked initiative, misused funds and failed to make use of investment.

Each has been replaced by his deputy minister - Gurbannur Annaveliev for power and industry, Shamuhammed Durdiliev for construction, and Ashir Sarybaev for transport.

The three new appointments are themselves on a warning – they have six months’ probation, and if they fail and get the sack, they will not be offered another government position.
