The Kurdish Organisation for the Defence of Human Rights and Public Freedoms in Syria has released a statement claiming that the Syrian security services are preventing thousands of stateless Kurds from working in restaurants and shops.

Anyone not complying with newly imposed regulations could face a year in jail and a hefty fine, the organisation said.

As a result, large numbers of Kurds have lost their jobs in Damascus and the surrounding countryside, the group reported, condemning what it described as yet another attempt to prevent the estimated 300,000 stateless Kurds in Syria from earning a living.
