Shake-Up at Tajik Foreign Ministry

Shake-Up at Tajik Foreign Ministry

Friday, 4 May, 2007
First deputy foreign minister Saymumin Yatimov was removed from that job on May 2 and appointed Tajikistan’s ambassador to Belgium. Yatimov will also be Tajikistan’s envoy to the European Union, but some observers still say the shift is a demotion.

The same day, Nuriddin Shamsov, former head of the foreign ministry’s international organisations department, was named as the country’s new permanent representative at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, OSCE.

Meanwhile, Abdumajid Dostiev, deputy speaker of parliament, was made ambassador to Russia. Dostiev played a major role in the National Reconciliation Commission after the 1992-97 civil war.
