Security Alert Sparks Rumours of Terror Threat

Tight security measures were put in place in al-Raqqa this week, sparking rumours of a possible terror threat, Arraee, the website of the opposition Democratic People’s Party, reported on August 25.



According to the site, security was especially heavy around public buildings on August 25. A rumour circulated that the security services had found a car filled with explosives near a Baath party building in the city centre and were searching for two other vehicles.



The party accused the authorities of spreading a similar rumour a year-and-a-half ago to raise fears of terrorism and win public sympathy.
