Military units from all six members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, SCO, will take part in an anti-terrorism drill, dubbed "Peace Mission 2007", from August 9 to 17.

China is sending in 1,600 army and air force troops, making this the first time that it has used airborne military units in a joint exercise.

The drill coincides with the SCO Summit in Bishkek on August 16 and will be carried out in the Chelyabinsk region in Russia's Ural Mountains and in the city of Urumqi in northwest China.

Vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong has said that it will be a good opportunity to enhance international cooperation on combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.
