Sadr: Ready to Defend Syria and Iran

Al-Mashriq is published daily by Al-Mashriq Institution for Media and Cultural Investments.

In a meeting with Syrian president Bashar al-Asaad, the young Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr announced (on February 6) that his movement is ready to defend Syria and Iran against US pressures by any possible means. He met the Syrian foreign minister, Farook al-Shara, and discussed political developments in Iraq and ways to improve bilateral ties between the two countries. Sadr described relations between Iraq and Syria as "good" and indicated that they both confront the same challenges.
