Russian-Turkmen Talks on Gas and Water

The Turkmen-Russian inter-government commission on economic cooperation meets in Ashgabat on July 11 to discuss plans to develop Central Asian gas pipelines, in particular the recently-agreed project to lay a line northwards up the eastern shore of the Caspian to take Turkmen gas to Russia.



The commission will also discuss whether Turkmenistan might sign up to a strategy for managing Central Asia’s water and energy resources which is being developed within the Eurasian Economic Community – a grouping of which Ashgabat is not a member.
