Afghan forces eradicated 2,875 acres of opium poppy across the country last week, the Afghan Interior Ministry announced on April 29. A press statement issued in Kabul said government forces destroyed poppy crops in Jowzjan, Nangarhar, Helmand, Kandahar, Balkh, Farah and Herat provinces. Local police as well as the special counter-narcotics force from the interior ministry took part in the eradication operation. The campaign will be extended to other provinces, the statement added.
