Ombudsmen from Spain, Russia, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will gather in Tashkent on July 11 to discuss how to harmonise Uzbek laws with the national legislation on the post of ombudsman.

Uzbek government representatives have been invited to take part in the meeting, which is being held as part of an OSCE project aimed at developing the institution of human rights ombudsman in Uzbekistan.

The post of ombudsman was established in 1997, and the office is answerable to parliament.
