Opposition Calls White-Clad Protest for March 21

The Uzbek opposition group Birdamlik (Solidarity) has announced it will stage a one-hour protest in Tashkent on March 21, which is Nawruz, the start of the traditional new year. Birdamlik has called on Tashkent residents to join its afternoon protest at Khadr Square in the city centre and to wear something white. Birdamlik’s last attempt to stage peaceful demonstrations in nine cities across Uzbekistan on March 8 was foiled by law-enforcement agencies.
