Action is needed to ensure the success of a Syrian stock market due to launch next month, according to a January 26 report on the pro-government website Syria Steps.

The Damascus Securities Exchange will open for a trial period on January 29, it reported.

Official trading will then begin on February 23, with two or three trading sessions each week involving 40 listed companies, according to the website.

The article underlined the importance of educating Syrians about the market and how it will work. It also said there was a need to pass legislation to ease electronic trading regulations.
