Tribunal Update 97: Last Week in The Hague (12-18 October, 1998)

Sunday, 18 October, 1998

These new judges elected by the UN General Assembly will comprise Trial Chamber III. Out of nine candidates, and following four rounds of voting, the following three were elected: David Anthony Hunt (63) a retired Australian Supreme Court Judge; Patrick Lipton Robinson (54) Jamaican Deputy Solicitor-General and Mohamed Bennouna (55) a Moroccan law professor.

Their mandate will begin as soon as they take the oath, and will run until 16 November 2001, when the mandate of 11 current judges of the Tribunal, who were elected last year, will also expire.
