As Zebo Tajibaeva reports, the swings and other play equipment fell apart or disappeared long ago.

The open spaces between residential apartment blocks are used as car parks these days, making them dangerous places for young children.

Parents would like the city authorities to build play areas, but the mayor’s office says apartment owners need to do that themselves since the communal areas are now in their hands, not the state’s.

Dushanbe does have an entertainment park but it costs nearly 13 US dollars to get in, putting it beyond reach for many parents in the city.
