Kazak president Nursultan Nazarbaev is expected to make a long anticipated statement on whether Kazakstan will invest in Tajikistan’s Rogun hydroelectricity station when he visits Dushanbe on September 30.

Tajikistan is counting on Kazak money to back its hydro-energy industry and become a firm ally in regional water and energy disputes.

Trade between the two countries exceeded 200 million US dollars during the first half of this year, doubling the total for 2006. Cooperation is currently concentrated on metal mining, banking, communications and grain.
