An Iraqi police source said former prime minister Iyad Allawi was pelted with stones by some individuals in Najaf on December 4. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that when Allawi finished his visit to the holy shrine of Imam Ali, groups of people dressed in black shouted, "Damn the Ba'athists!" Allawi replied, “Down with Ba'athists and Saddamis,” but they threw stones at him. Allawi's bodyguards ended the incident by shooting in the air. The source did not indicate whether Allawi was injured in the attack.
