Iraqi government forces sealed off the city of Najaf on July 19, banning outsiders and all cars from entering the city. The clampdown came after a suicide bomber driving a car killed around 200 people in al-Kufa. A source in the Iraqi police said police were now searching for 13 car bombs believed to have entered the city last week. Najaf city council of Najaf declared late on the evening of July 19, running from one till six in the morning. Security checkpoints have been set up in the streets.
