Muqtada Supports Maliki

Al-Ittihad is published daily by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

President Jalal Talabani phoned the Shia cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, asking him to support (incoming Iraqi prime minister Noori) al-Maliki in forming a national unity government. Talabani asked Sadr to form a joint committee between the Sadrist movement and the Kurdistan Alliance to improve relations between the two slates. Muqtada positively responded to Talabani's requests. He said he intended to send a delegation to the Kurdistan region to strengthen relations with the Kurds.
