Judges hearing the case had previously said they were in possession of all the material necessary to come to a decision as to whether Milosevic should be granted provisional release from tribunal custody for the purposes of such a trip.

But it emerged in court this week that the defence had been set a February 2 cut-off date to submit further information. Presiding Judge Patrick Robinson agreed to extend the deadline after lawyer Steven Kay noted that his team had had difficulties reaching one of the parties involved.

The discussion came after Milosevic himself protested in court that the tribunal was “mistreating” him by withholding medical treatment. Judge Robinson cut the accused’s interjection short, reminding him that the chamber had ordered submissions on the matter to be made in writing.
