Eleven people were injured when supporters of a former local militia commander opened fire on hundreds of protestors in the Rustaq district of the northeastern province of Takhar on March 25. According to local sources, the protestors were demanding the return of lands from Enayatullah Kofi when his men opened fire on them. The commander also warned local government officials that he would resort to firearms if any action is taken against him. Provincial governor Ghulam Ghaus Abubakar said the matter would be investigated.
