Unidentified militants set fire to a girls’ middle school in the eastern province of Laghman on the night of April 30, leaving hundreds of Korans destroyed. Abdul Karim Rahimi, a senior provincial education official, said militants attacked the school overnight and set the school on fire after tying up the janitors. He added that such attacks are the work of the enemies of peace and stability, who do not want the sons of this country to be educated. The provincial education department head said that all the school’s desks, chairs and textbooks were destroyed in the fire, causing 40,000 US dollars worth of damages.
