Leading IWPR's Iraq Team

The late Ammar Al Shahbander shows off the Baghdad office and talks about its work.
By IWPR

Engaging, committed and larger than life, Ammar Al Shahbander was IWPR’s Chief of Mission in Iraq until his untimely death in a car bomb attack on May 2.

That evening, Ammar and two friends were walking down a street in the Karrada Dakhil district of Baghdad when a stationary vehicle nearby exploded. Ammar was killed; so were 14 other civilians. Emad al-Sharaa, who worked with Ammar in the Baghdad office, was seriously injured but is recovering.

This short film, from 2010, shows Ammar Al Shahbander and colleagues in IWPR's Baghdad office.
