Kunar rebel submits to government

Islah is a state-run daily published mostly in Dari.

A paramilitary commander who formerly opposed the central government joined the peace process in the eastern province of Kunar on April 22. Provincial governor Assadullah Wafa said that Mukaram Khan, who was formerly part of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s Hizb-e-Islami faction, joined the peace process after negotiations with the authority, and surrendered a quantity of arms and ammunition to the provincial security forces. Mukaram Khan asked all other local commanders still opposing the government to join the peace process.
